Gilt top edge and fore edge uncut. Later green cloth binding with gilt title by Maltbys of Oxford. James Pringle Barclay (1796-1884) was an attorney of Wickham Market, Suffolk and the author of 'Cottage Rates' first published in 1836. His extensive commonplace book reflects his interests and his profession. the mss includes a first hand account of Palmerston, Cobden and Bright. A large book which may require extra postage to be quoted.
