Engraved vignette to title page and another vignette on p,1 with grotesque initial of two monks. Habits are shaded to denote colours and the last plate (73) is schematic and colour coded to provide a key for the others. Library no.? stamped at foot of title page. Armorial bookplate of John Basil Lowder Tolhurst to front pastedown. Number and indistinct name to front free endpaper and fold marks to second endpaper. Full gilt ruled contemporary calf with six bands. Gilt decorated spine compartments and lacking title label. Upper joint cracked and chips to head and foot of spine. Boards marked and worn. Schoonebeek was a student of Romeyn de Hooghe for 3 years and was a very accomplished engraver. When Peter the Great visited Amsterdam Schoonebeek gave him engraving lessons before being invited to Russia to teach in his later years
