8vo (191 x 125). pp, (4), 123, (1), 44, (4). Ex. 3rd. Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment Barracks with ink stamps and accession label to front free end paper. Some browning including upper corner of title page. Various ink annotations. Hinges tender and binding weak. Original two tone dark green and red ruled cloth with gilt title to front board. "Orderly Room, 3rd Bedf. R" inked to Front cover and on bottom edge. Cloth is well rubbed and worn to tips of spine, corners and joints. Spine is browned and darkened. Clear protective wraps. Manuscript letter, loosely inserted dated 5th Dec.1889 from R.Holden, Whitehall Yard, referring to the death of Captain Trelawney and the same added as a manuscript footnote on page 62, probably by the author. Lieut.-Col. Burgoyne was Commanding Officer of the 3rd Bedfordshire's and it is likely this was his copy that was retained for reference in the Orderly Room. A unique copy.
